Thanks!

Kudos to Victoria MP Denise Savoie for taking a stand on saving Fish Lake!

It is with grateful hearts that we read the letter that the MP for Victoria recently sent to her constituents.  Entitled "Save Our Harbour and Fish Lake!" this is what Denise Savoie wrote about Fish Lake:

Dear Constituents,
(part on Harbour omitted)

As you may already be aware Taseko Mines Ltd. is proposing to develop a huge open pit gold and copper mine, in the traditional territory of the Tsilhqot’in Nation in south central British Columbia. The proposed mine would cause immense environmental destruction to the local ecosystem, including turning Teztan Biny or “Fish Lake” into a tailings pond for industrial pollution. This lake is a critical food source for the Tsilhqot’in people - to destroy it would be a tragedy for 85 000 trout they depend on.

Despite findings from a federal environmental review panel that determined the Prosperity Mine Project will adversely affect the environment and Tsilhqot'in people and culture, it is expected that the federal government will disregard the non-binding review and approve the project.

Please write to Prime Minister Stephen Harper, Environment Minister Jim Prentice and Minister of Natural Resources, Christian Paradis and let them know that you object to this project. Please copy me as well at SavoiD@parl.gc.ca.

Sincerely,

Denise Savoie
