Singing the praises....
We have a lot of reasons to be thankful. As a relatively new non-profit - with a really big agenda to save a lake and save the planet from the impacts of the tar sands while also protecting the rights of First Nations - it is a challenge to be heard over the many other worthy voices also trying to make a difference. But some important people and organizations have tuned in to R.A.V.E.N.'s work and are helping out in a big way.The Donner Canadian Foundation has provided a large donation to assist with two crucial scientific studies needed for the defence of Teztan Biny (Fish Lake). The hydrology and traditional use studies are part of the preparation for the federal environmental assessment of the proposed Taseko Mines so-called "Prosperity Project." And The Donner Canadian Foundation's donation will also help to finish a film being made to present to the panel members. The film has also been helped along with donations from Small Change Fund and Friends of the Nemaiah Valley.
Then there is the recent trip made to Ontario to raise awareness and funds for the Beaver Lake Cree Nation's legal action to stop the expansion of the tar sands. With help from Environmental Defence and Sierra Club Canada, there were successful events in Toronto and Ottawa at which dozens of people were transformed by the news that there IS a remedy to the relentless march of the oil companies. And The Co-operative Bank in Manchester continues to keep this issue in front of the media and its millions of members, generating daily donations that now add up to thousands of dollars - money that goes directly to pay for work needed to keep the case moving forward.
And finally, there are hundreds of individual donors who have pitched in to help (you know who you are!). The amounts range from a couple of dollars (or British pounds) to hundreds. It's inspiring and humbling. And both the Tsilhqot'in and Beaver Lake Cree Nations are very thankful for the help.
R.A.V.E.N. wants to thank all our donors for their generous support!
Stand up to your obstacles and do something about them. You will find that they haven't half the strength you think they have. -- Norman Vincent Peale
