Update from Friends of the Nemaiah Valley - important information about the Fish Lake hearings and a fundraiser!
Hello All Friends of "Friends of the Nemaiah Valley";1. FONV will be holding a fund raising auction in Victoria on November 7th. Once again we are fortunate to have the services of Mike and Maggie Hayes. Details of time and location will follow but we are ready to accept donations of goods and services today. I know there were people lined up to donate services last year and I have most of that information so if you are still on board let me know.
2. As many of you know, the biggest forest fire in B..C. is burning in what's known as the Lava Canyon Fire. It is burning the northern part of the Brittany Triangle into Nunsti Park and is approximately 63,000 ha in size. You can read more about this on our website here: http://www.fonv.ca/news.php or go to www.fonv.ca and click on "News and Events".
***Immediately below that update is an article written by journalist Andrew Findlay for the Georgia Straight, "Fight Looms Over Fish Lake".***
3. The Panel Manager of the Prosperity review re Taseko Mines proposed Fish Lake Mine wishes to seek the views of interested parties on a written request by the Esketemc First Nation for confidential information to be shared with the Panel. The Esketemc have requested the opportunity to have Elders and community members identify areas of importance to the Panel along the proposed transmission line and other developments that are part of the proposed Prosperity Mine Project, during the Panel's upcoming second site visit.
Prior to making a decision, and pursuant to the Confidentiality Procedures (CEAR# 1042), the Panel is giving interested parties the opportunity to comment on this request. This request by the Esketemc First Nation can be viewed at CEAR# 1124 (http://www.ceaa-acee.gc.ca/050/document-eng.cfm?document=38436).
